Renu Mansukhani, MD is an endocrinologist who has practiced in the DMV since 2001, exclusively specializing in obesity medicine and weight management for the last 18 years. Her research-supported view is that obesity is a biologically based chronic disease, and believes her greatest asset is her ability to listen to patients and actually hear them. She wrote an essay in 2016 on the doctor-patient relationship that was published in JAMA. By taking time that other physicians often don't have, she can better diagnose and treat the various factors affecting her patients' health and wellness. She does not pretend to know all the answers, but will always be honest with patients about what she feels is going on.
Dr. Mansukhani is a DC area native, and received her medical degree from the Brown University School of Medicine. She did her endocrinology fellowship and weight management training at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. In addition to her clinical experience, she has worked in health policy, with a special interest in advocacy around childhood obesity. She has written numerous articles regarding childhood obesity prevention and general nutrition and wellness, and is a physician-advocate for a healthier environment for both adults and kids. She has been a guest lecturer in courses for medical students at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and given talks for physicians on the appropriate use of weight management medication.
Prior to opening Patient Centered Weight Management, Dr. Mansukhani worked at the National Center for Weight and Wellness in Washington, D.C., and served as the Assistant Medical Director for the George Washington University Weight Management Program.
